Grateful

Hi! Happy day-after-Thanksgiving! Pie for breakfast, anyone?
I’m sipping on some tea right now, reflecting on last night’s festivities, which I spent with my close friends. I cooked up a wonderful feast (we did end up having a turkey, which means I now have leftovers for at least a week) and we gorged ourselves on pies, dinner rolls, and good conversation.
As we went around the table saying what we were thankful for, danced to oldies and attempted to carve the bird, I realized how much I have to be grateful for. Life has changed a lot since last year, and it may never be perfect. But some moments will be, and that’s what’s important.
Here’s to good friends, good food, and good moments! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

The Table

We were seven people, so I kept things small and intimate. I covered the table in a burlap-style tablecloth, and laid a sheer, gold flecked runner down the middle. I placed eclectic bouquets of fall flowers at either end of the table, and down the runner, a collection of squashes in different colors and sizes. Place settings were simple: silver chargers, white china plates, silver cutlery and crystal glasses. I barely took any pictures, as my friends were arriving and my camera battery was, of course, dying, but we took plenty of iPhone shots.

The Menu

Kind of traditional, a little bit different, so delicious! Not enough pictures, (again) but here’s what I served:

Buttery Dinner Rolls (my friend took the few leftover ones home, she loved them so much!)
Blanched Green Beens with Roasted Red Peppers
Acorn Squash, Pomegranate and Kale Salad (my vegetarian friend deemed this her new favorite!)
Lemon and Sage Hasselback Potatoes
Rosemary Roasted Potatoes (thanks to my friend Ellie for this delicious contribution!)
Challah, Beef Bacon, and Apple Stuffing
Cranberry Orange Sauce
Herbed Duck Fat Roasted Turkey on Purple + Sweet Potatoes (I riffed on Ina’s popular recipe)
Pumpkin Pie (I instagrammed it! See it here)
Classic, Sky High Apple Pie  (I gave the last two slices to my friend and she was over the moon! It’s that good)

Challah, Beef Bacon, Apple and Sage Stuffing

Blanched Green Beans with Roasted Red Peppers

Herbed Duck Fat Roasted Turkey

Acorn Squash, Pomegranate and Kale Salad

Sage and Lemon Hasselback Potatoes
